Jamovi.org
Jamovi is an open-source project built on top of R that gives users a graphical interface similar to SPSS or Minitab. I realize that this may not jive with the programming-centric perspective of this website, but I feel that there are valuable reasons to promote it. Not everyone has the time to learn a programming language, and they really should not have to in order to perform basic data visualization and analysis. In many cases in education, it can make sense to teach students with Jamovi rather than paid software, because we want them to be able to take and apply what they learn outside of the classroom without regard to their financial situation. Additionally, Jamovi can be a softer transition into R programming, as their “Rj Editor” interface allows students to see the R code underlying the analysis they are doing. Jamovi has also made real contributions to the R language with their “JMV” package that makes nice-looking statistical reports to the end user with minimal effort. If you are a statistics teacher looking for a graphical program to teach students how to do basic data analysis, it is my opinion that you should consider Jamovi as an option.
